The Lebensraum Myth
According to historical narrative, it goes as it follows. Then during the WW2, between 1941 and 1945, at best they are heroes of the world who stopped the evil nazi Germany. At worst they are the lesser evil of the two. Then finally after the war, during the cold war, the Soviet are once again described as the bad guys and the Americains begin their struggle of good and evil freedom andslavery right and wrong against the Soviets which never really ended since right now Russia is depicted as the Soviet Union today. As a resultat of this, all of Eastern Europe was throwing themselves into the arms of Hitler, begging for alliance guarantees and protection from the increasingly bold Soviets. Finally on the eastern border of Germany, there was an absolutly gigantic build up of troops, armors and aircrafts. In fact, the biggest in history. Recon flights returned home with terrifying tales of tank parks loaded to the brims and airfield overflowing with planes construction was underway absolutly everywhere. The most worrying thing however was none of the construction projects were defensive. These were not anti tanks ditches and bunkers. These were offensive projects, railroads, tracks were laid everywhere leading to the front not with Russian railway gauge but with the european one barracks were being constructed which were all full troops.
All along the border there were a sea of activities. In total the conservative estimate is that there was dozens of divisions and tanks numbering in the lows of ten of thousands. Hitler could take no more and called the Soviet bluff. Foreign minister Molotov was invited to Berlin to sign the tripartite pact whilst Hitler knew full that the Soviets would do such a thing. Instead of signing, Molotov dished out a list of demands. 1 : No German troops in Finland. 2 : Soviet military occupation of Turkey. 3 : Recognition of Persian Gulff as a Soviet sphere of influence. 4 : Japan must renounce its claims on Soviet territories. 5 : Bulgaria must become a Soviet controlled state. in order to protect the Soviet control of the Black Sea and the Dardanelles the Soviets had been tricked into revealing their hands. and now hit like a proceed with clarity he had only one legal chooice with the British booted out of the continental Europe. He had a limited amount of time to attack the Soviets before they attacked Europe. Time was quite literally of the essence. In 1939, the Soviet Army had 1n9 million mens in its ranks. In 1941, It now had 5 millions. If this buildup was allowed to continue. If the offensive preparations was allowed to continue, all over the border, then Germany would never stand a chance simply in term of population and ressources, even now It was perhaps too late. But Germany had to try. Does this situation sound like an unprovoked attack in in order to aquire Lebensraum wrong? Besides all the evidence, another point that matters is what the Germans themselves believe they were fighting for.

This was as we can probably ascertain today, a short time, perhaps a quarter to half a year before Stalin made his great incursion into central and western Europe. " " It was a difficult decision for us to start the war with Russia while we were still at war with England and had to occupy large parts of Europe. Every month has shown how right the furious decision was. if we hadn't attack, the Russians, with their concentrations of 20 000 tanks, would have launch a frost against us.
