How Henry Kissinger Killed 3 Million People
March 18th 1969 during the Vietnam war the US secretly began what would become a long and Relentless bombing campaign in neighboring Cambodia. Had there been an international criminal Tribunal for Cambodia prosecutors would have had a field day with US president Richard Nixon and his National Security adviser and later Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, establishing genocidal intent with these two would be a cakewalk. December 9th 1970 Nixon would phone Kissinger to discuss the ongoing bombing of Cambodia.; Operation menu as it was called was only an escalation of the bombing. Up to this point close to 500,000 tons of bombs had already been dropped on Cambodia. 5 minutes after getting off of the call Kissinger called General Alexander hay to relay the new orders from the president. He wants a massive bombing campaign in Cambodia he doesn't want to hear anything. On December 29th 2023 Henry Alfred Kissinger died in his home in Kent Connecticut at the age of 100. His death has been met with an outpouring of sympathy and affection from major American news outlets which may be even more troubling than his legacy. The Washington Post along with a lengthy obituary published a short piece on his : " carpet bombing of Cambodia " In it the authors write : " Ben Kieran, historian at Yale University and a leading scholar of the US Legacy in Cambodia has estimated that around 500,000 tons of us bombs were dropped on Cambodia and killed as many as 150 000 civilians. Interestingly enough this figure is from a paper that Kieran wrote In 1989 called the American bombardment of campuchia where he cites a figure of 540,000 tons. However it was ignored that Ben Kieran actually wrote another lesser known article published in the Canadian walrus magazine in collaboration with Owen Taylor at the University of Oxford.
This article was reporting that in 2000 upon a state visit to Vietnam President Bill Clinton announced that he would release extensive Air Force data on All American bombings during the Vietnam war from the years 1964 to 1975. The still incomplete database reveals that from October 4th 1965 to August 15th 1973 the United States dropped far more ordinance on Cambodia than was previously believed 2 756 941 tons. To put this into perspective, the Allies dropped just over 2 million tons of bombs during all of World War II. Cambodia may be the most heavily bombed country in history moreover the two announced the data released by Clinton shows the total payload dropped during these years to be nearly five times greater than the generally accepted figure. Nick Turse, author of" kill anything that moves, the real American war in Vietnam " He can easily considered as one of the greatest expert on American crimes during the Vietnam war. Kissinger helped to prolong the Vietnam War and expand the conflict into neutral Cambodia, facilitated genocides in Cambodia, East Timor and Bangladsh, accelerated civil wars in southern Africa and supported coups and death squads throughout Latin America. He had the blood of at least 3 million people on his hands. " According to Reed Brody, who was a human right lawyer, " few people have had a hand in as much death and destruction as much human suffering in so many places around the world as Henry. " " Henry Kissinger was as inept as he was ruthless extending the Vietnam War by seven bloody years to mask his diplomatic fail failure Timor over to Indonesia for decades of Slaughter until its inevitable Independence, cratering us credibility in Latin America by backing a murderous military dictatorship in Chile and mismanaging Moscow in ways that helped extend the Cold War by 15 years. " said Alfred W. McCoyof the University of Wisconsin.
Richard Falk, professor of international law at Princeton university, said he has been marked by " his extraordinary capacity to be repeatedly wrong about almost every major foreign policy decision made by the US government over the course of the last half century. It appears Kissinger's record in Bangladesh was too grave for the New York Times to ignore as the Washington Post did. : " Perhaps the most egregious episode came in the signals to Pakistan that it was free to deal with Bengali and East Pakistan as it saw fit. " When Pakistan's us-backed military was waging a genocidal war in East Pakistan now Bangladesh in 1971, " he and Nixon not only ignored pleas from the American Consulate in East Pakistan to stop the massacre but they approved weapon shipments to Pakistan " including the apparent illegal transfer of 10 fighter bombers from Jordan. At least 300,000 people were killed in East Pakistan and 10 million refugees were driven into India. We can also add East Timor in Kissinger's murderous list. Washington Post did not even name a single time he and president Ford " approved Indonesia's invasion of East teamour in December 1975 leading to a disastrous 24-year occupation by a us-backed military " Declassified documents released in 2001 by the National Security archive indicate that Ford and Mr Kissinger knew of the invasion plans months in advance and were aware that the use of American Arms would violate US law. It was reported that more than 100 000 people from East Timor were killed or starved to death. They don't say it was a conservatice estimate. The number could be as high as 180,000 or up to a quarter of the entire population.
They also don't mention that according to the un's truth commission set up after the Indonesian withdrawal that mass starvation was used as a weapon of War. We should also mention the notorious Operation Condor unmentioned by the New York Times or the Washington Post. " You did a great service to the West in overthrowing Allende. " Kissinger later told General Pinochet. The same Pinochet who would killed thousands of Chileans. In Argentina Kissinger gave another green light this time to a terror campaign of torture, forced disappearances and murder by a military junt that ovethrew President Isabel Martínez de Perón. During June 1976 meeting Kissinger told the military junt : " If there are things that have to be done you should do them quickly. " The so-called dirty war that followed would claim the lives of an estimated 30,000 Argentine civilians. Kissinger also stoked a war in Angola and prolonged departe in South Africa and in the Middle East where he sold out the Kurds in Iraq.

No, We Didn't Need to Nuke Japan
Paul Tibbetts ushered in Captain William Dick Parsons who had just weeks ago witnessed the Trinity nuclear bomb test in New Mexico. William Parsons would tell a small audience of Airmen " the bomb you were going to drop is something new in the history of warfare it is the most destructive weapon ever produced. We think it will knock out everything within a three mile area. On August 6th a flight surgeon handed Colonel Tibbetts 12 cyanide capsules to be distributed to his crew in the case that they were shot down so there would be no prisoners. After the bomb was dropped, Sergeant Robert Shumard, assistant enginner, " There was nothing but death in that cloud, all those Japanese souls ascending to heaven. " The radio operator Richard Jr Nelson the youngest crew member at only 20 years old would deliver the news back to headquarters :" Results, excellent. " Co pilot captain Alvin Lewis : " My god, what have we done? " 100 000 people were killed immediately by the blast of the first bomb. 3 days later on Nagasaki, the bomb named Fat man was released, hitting north of the industrial center obliterating the city. 300 000 people died, almost all civilians. Many close calls have been recorded teaching children at a young age that the use of the bombs in Japan actually saved lives and was therefore a lesser of two evils. Basically trying to explain that obliterating 300 000 civilians was justificed at sometimes. There were eight five-star generals and Admirals during World War II comprising the highest ranking officers of the U. S military of these. 7 on these 8 believed that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were ultimately unnecessary.
Eisenhower said : " The Japanese were ready to surrender and it wasn't necessary to hit them with that awful thing. " Chester Nimiz, Commander in Chieff of the US Pacific Fleet, said : " The atomic bomb played no decisive part from a purely military point of view in the defeat of Japan. " The use of atomic bombs at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender. " Fleet Admiral Ernest Joseph King : " I didn't like the atom bomb or any part of it. An effective Naval blockade would, in the course of time, have starved the Japanese into submission through lack of oil rice medicines and other essential materials. " Fleet Admiral William Halsey Jr : " The first atomic bomb was an unnecessary experiment. It was a mistake to ever drop it. They had this toy and they wanted to try it out, so they dropped it. " It killed a lot of Japs, but the Japs had put out a lot of peace feelersthrough Russia long before. " Fleet Admiral William D. Leahy, Chief ot Staff to the Commander in Chief : " It is my opinion that the use of this barbarous weapon at Hiroshima and Nagasaki was of no material assistance in our war against Japan. The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender because of the effect of the effective sea blockade and the successful bombing with conventional weapons. " General of the Army and Air Force Henry H. Arnold said : " It always appeared to us that atomic bomb or no atomic bomb the Japanese were already on the verge of collapse. "
On May 30th 1945 former president Herbert Hoover sent a memo to President Harry Truman urging him to change the surrender terms to allow Japan to keep their Emperor, the one condition keeping them from surrendering. Douglas MacArthur having read the memo called it : A wise statesmanlike document and had it been put into effect would have obviated the slaughter at Hiroshima and Nagasaki in addition to much of the destruction of the island of Honshu by our bomber attacks. That the Japanese would have accepted it and gladly I have no doubt. "
Tokyo for example had suffered the single deadliest bombing raid in all of human history killing a hundred thousand people aside from Tokyo cities across the country were being destroyed. Hiroshima was chosen as a Target because it was one of the few remaining cities that wasn't destroyed by bombing. In May of 1945 acting Secretary of State Joseph Grew became a strong advocate of relaying to the Japanese that they would be able to keep their Emperor if they surrendered. Grew met the president to change the surrender terms. Truman told him to convene a meeting. Chiefs of Staff ans secretaries of the war were here, including James Forrestal, the secretary of Navy. The meeting was being helf on May 29th 1945. In a memorandum from the meeting, Joseph Grew noted that " the meeting lasted for an hour and in the course of the discussion it became clear that Mr Stimpson, MrForrestal and General Marshall were all in accord with the principal but for certain military reasons ot divulged it was considered inadvisable for the president to make such a statement just now. "Grew wrote in his memoirs that after the meeting " I duly reported this to the president and the proposal for action was for the time being dropped. " Joseph Grew in " Turbulent Era ( 1952 ). Secretary of the war Henry Stimson would write in his diary what was really going on" It was an awkward meeting because there were people present in the presence of whom I could not discuss the real feature which would govern the whole situation, namely S1. " S1 being the code name for the atomic bomb. In his autobiography co-authored with McGeorge Bundy, Stimson declared " It is possible, in the light of the final surrender, that a clearer and earlier exposition of American willingness to retain the emperor would have produced an earlier ending to the war. This course was earnestly advocated by Gru and his immediate associate during May 1945.. "
" The United States by its delay in stating its position had prolonged the war. " By July the situation was so dire in Japan Stimson wrote the president in a top-secret memo to Truman on July 2nd, 1945 : " We have the following enormously favorable factors on our side factors much weightier than those we had against Germany. Japan has no allies her Navy, is nearly destroyed. She is terribly vulnerable to our concentrated air attacks upon her crowded cities, industrial and food resources. She has against her not only the anglo-american forces but the rising forces of China and the ominous threat of Russia. I believe Japan is susceptible to reason in such a crisis to a much greater extent than is indicated by our current press and other current comment. Japan is not a nation composed wholly of mad Fanatics of an entirely different mentality from ours. On the contrary she has within the past Century shown herself to possess extremely intelligent people. She has not only built up powerful armies and navies she has maintained an honest and effective National Finance and respected position in many of the sciences in which we pride ourselves. I think the Japanese nation has the mental intelligence to recognize the Folly of a fight to the Finish. " Frederick Olivi in the other hand, said that the USA had no chooice but to drop the atomic bombs because of the " fanatical defense capabilities of the Oriental. " On the Postdam conference, Truman, Churchill and Stalin meet. Truman was later informed that the Soviet Union would enter to war against Japan in 15th August. A 20th June war department report also informed Truman that " an entry of Soviet Union into the war would finally convince the Japanese of the inevitable defeat. "
According to reports from Joint Chiefs of staff as early as April : " Once convinced of the inevitability of defeat, it is possible that a government could be formed that would sign and could enforce a surrender instrument. " " Report by Joint Staff Planners. 924/15, Subj : Pacific Strategy, 25 April 1945. Japan tried to sought piece with USSR, in vain, as the Soviet chose to string them along. Foreign Minister Togo had relayed his ambassador to Moscow. The Postdam conference culminated with the Postdam declaration stating that if the Japanese didn't proclaim now the unconditionnal surrender of all Japanese Armed Forces, they would face prompt and utter destruction. Joseph Grew tried to maneuver the language to include the retention of the Emperor. He even got a sentence included in a draft of the declaration in article 12, which said that surrender may include a " constitutionnal monarchy under the present dynasty " By the time the Japanese received the Declaration on 27th July however, this sentence had been deleted. Regarding the status of the Japanese emperor, the Japanese publicly annoucned that they would ignore the Declaration. On June 1944? General Bonner Fellers who led psychological warfare against the Japan Empire, wrote a report detailing the status of the Emperor to the Japanese people. : " hanging of the Emperor to the Japanese people to them would be comparable to the crucifixion of Christ to us.

" In his memoirs published in 1955, Truman revealed : " Anwious as we were to have Russia in the war against Japan, the experience at Postdam now made them determined that I would not allow the Russians any part in the control of Japan. As I reflected the situation during the trip home, I made up my mind that General McArthur would be given complete command and control after victory in Japan. We were not going to be disturbed by Russian tactics in the Pacific. Force is the only thing the Russians understand. And while I was hopeful that Russia might someday be persuaded to work into cooperation for peace, I kenw that the Russians should not be allowed to get into any control of Japan. " " At no time from 1941 to 1945did i ever hear it suggested by the president or by any other responsible of the government that atomic bomb should not be used in the war " said Henry Simson.
Israel can do whatever it wants. They can deliberately induce a famine and saturate Gaza with so many bombs it's one of the most bombed areas in the history of the world. Clearly there's nothing they can't get away with. Of course Israel enjoys a steady stream of military aid to the tune of some $4 billion a year. It's been over 300 billions from the US from 1946 to 2022. The security Council votes to condemn or call for ceasefire or vote to Grant the Palestinians estate For this reason that Israel enjoys complete and total immunity from consequence for its many grave crimes against humanity and now the same is true even as Israel is committing a genocide First myth is that e Israel is a strategic asset. The Cold War era argument goes that Israel was an asset to check Soviet power in the Middle East. That's not what former National Security adviser and Secretary of State Henry Kissinger believed
In 1982 still well before the Soviet Union's demise Israel's invasion of Lebanon created Hezbollah who killed hundreds of US Marines in a suicide bombing at the barracks of the first Battalion 8 Marines. Another bombing of the US Embassy there was the single deadliest day in the cia's history. The occupation of the Palestinian territories has further resulted in two uprisings that have killed thousands of people. The occupation itself is especially troubling considering the territories were first acquired through a preemptive attack by Israel against Egypt which brought Jordan and Syria to war leading to another War over the captured territories which almost led to nuclear war. Hardly a stabilizing force in the region. As Mearscheimer and Walt explain, even if Israel was a valuable Ally during the Cold War that justification ended when the Soviet Union collapsed. " Second myth; We need Israel to fight terrorism. It shouldn't come as a big surprise that groups like Al-Qaeda attacked the United States largely because of their support for Israel. Years before 9/11, when a bomb Laden van exploded under the North Tower of the World Trade Center in 1993 a young Ramsey USF sent letters to New York newspapers claiming responsibility. As told by Steven Cole, author of " Ghost wars " Yousef issued three political demands an end to all us aid to Israel, an end to diplomatic relations with Israel and a pledge to end interference with any of the Middle East countries interior Affairs. " " The terrorism that Israel practices which is supported by America must be faced with a similar one. "
The author notes that " it made no references to Islam at all " " Yousef to Define America as an enemy solely because of its support for Israel " Abdul Rahman Yasin one of usf's co-conspirators who said in an interview with Leslie stall "we have to send a message that this is not right this is to revenge for my Palestinian brothers and my brothers in Saudi Arabia " KHalid Sheikh Muhammed, architect of the 11/9, was also supported by the US support for Israel. According to the official 911 Commission report : " By his own account ksm's animous toward the United States stemmed not from his experiences there as a student, but rather from his violent disagreement with US foreign policy favoring Israel. There is also Ben Laden himself. In Lawrence Wright's book " The looming tower : Al Qaeda and the road to 9/11. " the author describes a 14-year-old Osama " Sometimes he would sit in front of the television and weep over the news from Palestine in his teenage years he was the same nice kid his mother later related but he was more concerned sad and frustrated about the situation in Palestine in particular and the Arab and the Muslim world in general. " He was vocal to it prior to the year of 9/11, declaring in his 1996 fatwa : " It is no secret to you my brothers that the people of Islam have been afflicted with oppression hostility and Injustice by the judeo-christian alliance... Your blood has been spilt in Palestine and Iraq. "
Third myth : Israel is a democracy. How many times I saw zionists and zionist's defenders claming that Israel was the only democracy in the Middle East? Israel Israel is neither a democracy nor is it especially moral compared to others states. In February 2023 the civilian Authority or the body that governs the West Bank was transferred to Israeli Finance Minister Smotrich. The World Bank was effectively annexed in 2023 . What has been ruled by a military commander for more than half a century was transferred over to civilian control being administered by the federal government of Israel. Despite this extraordinary power, over the lives of some 3 million Palestinians not a single one of them are able to vote in Israeli elections, despite being at the mercy of its whims. This is not a democracy. Also as Maersheimer and Walt explained : " whether a country is democratic is not a reliable indicator of how Washington will relate to it. The United States has overthrown a few democratic governments in the past and has supported numerous dictators when doing so was thought to advance US interests. " The Eisenhower Administration overthrew a democratically elected government in Iran in 1953 while the Reagan Administration supported Saddam Hussein in the 1980s. The fact that bills and political parties in Israel are disqualified if they negate the existence of the state of Israel as the state of the Jewish people or the Democratic character of the state is also caused for some alarm.
On October 2000, after Israel opened fire on Israeli Arab protesters, killing 13, the Israeli government set up the or commission to investigate what had happened. The commission concluded " which caused controversy in Israel that government handling of the Arab sector has been primarily neglectful and discriminatory. " A 2016 Pew survey of Israeli Jews found that 79% believe they deserve preferential treatment. In the very same survey 48% of Jewish Israelis agreed with the statement Arabs should be expelled or transferred from Israel. Finance Minister though he sought to put a positive spin on them as well the unexpected result was the demographic effect on the non-jewish public where there was a dramatic drop in the birth rate. As Mearsheimer and Walt say : " Imagine the outcry that would arise here if a US cabinet official spoke of the benefits of a policy that had reduced the birth rates of African-Americans and Hispanics thereby preserving a white majority "

Fourth myth : Israel is surrounded by countries that want to destroy it. In an article from Haaretz in January 2004, Israeli historian Benny Morris was asked if he identified with Ben Gurion. : " I do not identify with Ben gurian. I think he made a serious historical mistake in 1948. Even though he understood the demographic issue and the need to establish a Jewish State without a large Arab minority, he got cold feet during the war. In the end he faltered. " The interviewer responds : " I'm not sure I understand. Are you saying that Ben gurian aired in expelling too few Arabs? "
Benny Morris : " If he was already engaged in expulsion maybe he should have done a complete job. I know that this stuns the Arabs and the Liberals and the politically correct types. But my feeling is that this place would be quieter and no less suffering if the matter had been resolved once and for all. " If Ben Gurion had carried out a large expulsion and cleansed the whole country, the whole land of Israel, as far as the Jordan River it may yet turn out that this was his fatal
mistake . If he had carried out a full expulsion rather than a partial one he would have stabilized the state of Israel for generations. " The interviewer : " The term to cleanse is terrible. " Benny Morris : " I know it doesn't sound nice but that's the term that they used at the time. I adopted it from all the 1948 documents in which I am immersed. "
On the Palestinians moris opined : " It is a very sick society. It should be treated the way we treat individuals who are serial killers. " " There is a wild animal there that has to be locked up in one way or another. " Benny Morris is not a Palestinian sympathizer. Historian and author of " The birth of the Palestinian refugee problem, 1947 - 1949 " He is well known for debunking the conventional myths of Zionist history. Benny Morris : " One of the most tenacious myths relating to 1948 is that of " David and Goliath " - that the Arabs were overwhelmingly stronger militarily than the Yishuv. The simple truth is at the stronger side won. " Rashid Khalini had gone into details in " The Hundred Years. War on Palestine. " : " Israel in fact outnumbered and outgunned his opponents. " There were only five regular Arab military forces in the field in 1948 as Saudi Arabia and Yemen did not have modern armies to speak of. Just four of these armies entered the territory of mandatory Palestine ( the minuscule Lebanese Army never crossed the frontier ). " Two of these Jordan's Arab Legion and Iraq's forces were forbidden by their British allies from breaching the borders of the areas allocated to the Jewish state by partition and thus carried out no invasion of Israel. " So much of the Arab coalition wouldn't invade Israel proper. As Benny Morris wrote in his " 1948 and after. Israel and the Palestinians. " None of the Arab states save trans Jordan committed the full weight of their military power to the Enterprise indicating either inefficiency or perhaps a less than wholehearted seriousness about the declared aim of driving the Jews into the sea. " " Neither expected nor planned for Israel's demise nor were the Arab Legion operations from May onwards designed to bring this about. "
The 1967 war was sparked not by Arab states seeking to destroy Israel but by an Israeli attack on Egypt. In the later 1973, Morris says on " Righteous Victims : " Presidents Anwar Sadat of Egypt and Hafez Assad of Syria sought to regain the territories lost in 1967 neither aimed to destroy Israel. " It's telling the opposite of some propaganda including movies like Helen Mirren (as Golda Meir): “If the Arabs reach Tel Aviv, Israel will be wiped off the map.” in the movie " GOLDA " Israel is one of the most powerful militaries anywhere in the entire world. It's the fourth most powerful military after the US Russia and China according to US News. It's for now the only country in the Middle East and one of the very few in the world to have nuclear weapons. To the military prowess, add the extraordinar aid made by the USA. Funny thing is that the USA and Israel didn't always hav enecessarly the same relationship. Harry Truman supported the US partition plan and recognized Israel but American policy makers didn't want to put their full weight behind the Jewish state for fear of alienating the arab states. It wasn't until John F Kennedy's presidency when he authorized the first major arm shipment to Israel, that the floodgates opened. Anti-aircraft missiles and tanks were among the first arms.
J J Goldberg editor of the Jewish forward newspaper explained in his work " Jewish Power. Inside the American establishment. " Zionist influence increased exponentially during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations because the affluence and influence of Jews in American society had increased. Jews had become vital donors to the Democratic party they were key figures in the organized labor movement which was essential to the Democratic party; they were major figures in Liberal intellectual cultural and academic circles. More than any of their predecessors in the Oval Office John Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson counted numerous Jews among their close advisers donors and personal friends. " The Israeli Victory from the 6-day war saw shipments of military aid soar to new heights. In the early days of the state of Israel us officials believed it too weak to act as a counterweight to Soviet influence. Israel's military victories proved otherwise. From 1949 to 1965, US aid averaged $63 million a year. By 1970 it was 102 million and in 1971, US aid reached a staggering 634 millions dollars. 85% of that pure military aid. This amount qued after the Yom Kippour war in 1973. Over the years, US Congress has granted Israel several special privileges in order for Israel to receive more aids.
As Mearsheimer and Walt explained : " Most recipients of American foreign aid get their money in quarterly installments but since 1982, the annual foreign aid bill has included a special Clause specifying that Israel is to receive its entire annual appropriation in the first 30 days of the fiscal year. " " The foreign military financing program normally requires recipients of US military assistance to spend all of the money here in the United States to help keep American defense workers employed. d Congress grants Israel a special exemption in the annual appropriations bill, however, wever authorizing it to use about one out of every four US military aid dollars to subsidize its own defense industry. " Jeremy M sharp noted in a 2006 report for the Congressional research service that " no other recipient of US military assistance has been granted this benefit " Another CRS report from 2005 reveals amazingly that : " Because US economic aid is given to Israel as direct government-to-government budgetary support without any specific project accounting and money is fungible, there is no way to tell how Israel uses US aid. " Since it's not for the 4 myths debuked, why does Israel have these privileges? Because of their lobby. But then some could argue that others community have their own lobby as well to defend their own interests. There are Mexican, Indian, Cuban, Turkish lobbies, etc.... Mersheaimer and Walt : " Cuban Americans have lobbied to maintain the embargo on Castro's regime. Armenian Americans have pushed Washington to acknowledge the 1915 genocide and more recently to limit us relations with Azerbaidjan. " There is only difference with the Israel lobby though. " We use Israel lobby as a convenient shorthand term for the loose Coalition of individuals and organizations that actively work to shape US oreign policy in a pro-israel direction. " The 50 largest groups all belong to a conference of presidents of major American Jewish organizations.
The AIPAC is the most important of these. Back in 1997 Fortune Magazine asked nearly 2,200 insiders including members of Congress their staffs and Senior White House officials to rank the mightiest lobbying groups. AIPAC was ranked in second place only behind the 33 millions AARP group. " A key pillar of the Lobby's Effectiveness is its influence in the US Congress. " Whether the issue was abortion Arms Control affirmative action gay rights the environment trade policy Healthcare immigration welfare There is almost always a lively debate on Capitol Hill. But where Israel is concerned potential critics fall silent and there is hardly any debate at all. " We must examine AIPAC'ss grooming of candidates. Former president Howard Fredman who was president between 2006 and 2010 explained in August 2006 that : " APAC meets with every candidate running for congress. These candidates receive in-depth briefings to help them completely understand the complexities of Israel's predicament and of the Middle East as a whole. " We even ask each candidate to author a position paper on their views of the US Israel relationship. So it's clear where they stand on the subject. " In 1990, Democrat Larry Lonsdale challenged Republican Mark Hatfield. : " The word that I was pro-israel got around. Lonsdale described a visit to AIPAC headquarters : " It was an experience I will never forget. it wasn't enough that I was pro-israel. I was given a list of vital topics and quizzed read grilled for my specific opinion on each actually. I was told what my opinion must be and exactly what words I was to use to express those opinions in public. Shortly after the encounter at APAC I was sent a list of American supporters of Israel that I was free to call for campaign contributions. I called. they gave from Florida to Alaska. " Harry Lonsdale, 1990 Oregon Senate candidate.
